Lysbeth's Song
My first commissioned work.
The Legacy of the Northshield Coronet
A historical poem written for the first Northshield Investiture AS XXX. It was held in a Romanesque church with a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Wonderful. Thanks to Lord Chandler for suggesting I "sing" the poem rather than just "say" it.
A Motet Upon the Essence of the SCA
Originally composed for a Bardic Madness about AS XXV, it was set to music by Lawrence Henry for the first Northshield Investiture and performed by a wonderful chorus in that awesome Romanesque church. Wow.
The Story of English (with Owen Alun)
Owen got started on this riff, so blame him. I added some bits and posted it here, and now it has gotten copied and reproduced all over the place - including Oxford's Merton College and a Spanish (as in Castille) lingustics page!
How do you spell anachronism?
MP3s from Brendan's circa-AS XX tape, "Favorite Songs of Ansteorra."
The Miracle in the Currach
A slightly ... um... ethnic version of a tale that you may have heard as a child.
This list is not exhaustive, of course.
Werecow
"Moo, Moo, Moo..." Too funny! I don't know who wrote it, but I've always heard it done by Mistress Wyndreth Berginsdottir. She got it from a Dr. Demento tape.
The Death Lay of Bowie Gizzardsbane (from Silverlock by John Meyers Myers.)
OK, OK, OK, so it's not period. So what? It's the Battle of the Alamo told in Norse verse.
The collected works of Master Ragnar Ulfgarsson
I well remember Master Ragnar, though I knew him as Ragnar Mjorkwulf. My first sight of him was by firelight at a bardic circle. He strode forward bedecked in wool and bronze, an axe thrust through his belt, one hand holding a drinking horn as long as his arm, the other resting on the bone hilt of a dagger thrust through his belt. With glinting eyes under beetling black brows, and raven hair and beard, he spoke in a voice as deep as a fjord of Thor and Loki, of giants and dragon ships.
For a few moments, the SCA ceased to be simply a living-history organization where people play at living in the past. That fire became a time machine.
Ragnar had a fine sense of humor, as well. For a stellar example, see Olaf's House.
